The following deputies were promoted to the following ranks and positions in February 2018:

  • Corporal James Kelly promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Criminal Investigations Division.
  • SOD K-9 Deputy Calvin Davis promoted to SOD K-9 Corporal

The following deputies were promoted to the following ranks and positions in December 2017:

  • Lieutenant Kenneth McKenzie promoted to the rank of Captain, Special Operations Division
  • Corrections Officer Omischer Jones promoted to rank of sergeant, Detention Center    

The following officers were promoted to the following ranks and positions in October 2017:

  • Cpl. Jamie Jackson to Investigation Sergeant
  • Cpl. Cameron Hampton to Investigation Sergeant

The following officers were promoted to the following ranks and positions in March 2017:

  • Captain Robbie Bell was promoted to the rank of Major of the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Sergeant Willie Burley of Road Patrol was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, road patrol.
  • Sergeant Jimmie Golden of Road Patrol was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, road patrol.
  • Sergeant Dan Lowe of Road Patrol was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, road patrol.
  • Sergeant Benjamin Jones of Road Patrol was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, road patrol.
  • Sergeant Tommie Walker, Jr. of Road Patrol was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, Community Service.

The following officers were promoted to the following ranks and positions in April 2017.

  • Captain Chester Huffman was promoted to Major, Detention Center Operations.
  • Sergeant Cassandra Haynes was promoted to Captain, Detention Center Operations/Administration.

After 36 years, Burke County has a new sheriff preparing to take office -- 6,791 votes led Alfonzo Williams to victory on election day as he ended his campaign against the opposing candidate, Freddie Yelton.
