Special Operations Division
The Special Operations Division is a proactive team that provides operational support to the Sheriff's Office as well as local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. SOD’s primary focus is to lower crime in high crime areas through DDACTS (Data Driven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety) based on statistics.
SOD also provides equipped and trained specialized units capable of providing an immediate response as necessary to meet growing demands of both emergency and non-emergency needs of Burke County including preparedness for active shooter situations or emergencies at areas such as Plant Vogtle.
Special Operations utilizes techniques such as selective patrol and saturation patrol to assure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws. They are deployed based on crime problems and statistics in a specific give area as well as requests from citizens.
Members are recruited, selected, highly trained, equipped and assigned to resolve critical incidents involving a threat to public safety which might otherwise exceed the capabilities of traditional law enforcement first responders and investigative units.
Special Operations Division Team Members handle high-risk warrant service, barricaded dangerous subjects, hostage rescue and search and rescue and canine services. These deputies also provide support to other divisions within this agency, as well as, to outside agencies upon request.
