Training and Professional Development
The Training and Professional Development Division (TPD) is primarily responsible for all aspects of Law Enforcement and Detention Center training to include oversight of the Field Training Program. The TPD Division also manages the Citizens Firearms Academy.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office and Augusta Technical College collaborated to create a Training Facility that includes a Multi-Media Lab that seats 45 students and a multi-purpose Auditorium which seats up to 250 students. Training classes are also hosted by the TPD Division at Burke County’s new Judicial Center.
The primary purpose of the Training Facility is to provide members of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies with the highest quality training available by highly skilled, certified instructors.
The TPD Division hosts a variety of courses throughout the year and offers various monthly in-service training as required by the Georgia POST Council. Some in-service training topics and courses include:

- POST approved courses
- Supervision 1, 2 and 3 and Criminal Procedures
With plans for expansion, the TPD Division has set a goal of becoming one of the premier Training Divisions in the CSRA.
